Edmodo is a very useful teacher tool which encompasses not only a social media factor but also a full class organisational tool.
You require parental agreement that their child will be allowed to subscribe to this application if the student is under 13 years of age. However be assured you can make certain through the settings that your group is private and can only be accessed by those you choose to allow.
At first sight I found Edmodo to be a little daunting, but after creating a teacher account and then subscribing myself also as a student I was able to play with Edmodo and slowly learn the power of this app.
To begin with you create an account. (I would recommend doing this on a PC. Whilst it is easily achievable on an I pad, there is more functionality through the PC app.)

The code that is circled is what your students require to sign in to Edmodo and then they can become part of your Edmodo class. Refer to the picture below.
Your student simply adds the code and then completes the other fields. Once they are signed in their Edmodo homepage will be open. Refer to the picture below

- make links to any website
- link to any type of multimedia available on the web, e.g. You tube, Vimeo, Pinterest, etc.
- respond directly to your students questions
- comment on student work
- set quizzes (self corrected) and polls (self calculated)
- link with parents
- to keep track of students work and set clear deadlines
- links can be made to other apps such as Penultimate and Smart Office 2
- Link to Google Drive
- to have a record of their work available through any tablet or computer.
- to have quick feedback in any assessment(at the discretion of the teacher).
- to ask questions (which can be responded to by the teacher).
- to be part of class community and share ideas in a safe and controlled online environment.
