Photography apps
Photography apps encompass a wide range of uses. To actually take photos, the consensus (and the best option) remains the Camera app that is included with the ipad. Once the pictures are taken, there are many ways to use different apps to alter, to share and to use photos in the class. The following apps will be divided into different categories to help you find exactly what you need.
Editing
Editing your photos directly on the ipad can be very practical. Rather than transferring them to a computer, editing them and then putting them back on the ipad, you can use apps to do all the work directly on the device.
Adobe Photoshop express (free)
Adobe Photoshop touch (9.99$)
Adobe is known for its Photoshop program on PC. Many professional photographers use it to touch-up and edit their photos. The "express" version of this app is a quick and easy touch-up app that lets you take any photo from your Camera Roll and crop it, add simple effects on it (like aging, black and white, edges, frames...). For a classroom this is plenty! It is very simple to use and students get used to saving their edited photos to the Camera Roll and delete the old ones. The "touch" version gives you more precise options like changing contrast and color saturation but unless you are teaching a photography class, it is unnecessary.

Special Effects
Photographs are often used in other apps when making a project for other subject areas such as writing, science or Ethics and Religious Culture. Sometimes students' photos do not answer the needs they have for their project. Maybe Johnny wants a photo where an object really stands out to put in his Strip Design comic; or maybe Amy wants to add a poetic prose to the photo of her mother and father for her ERC Evernote presentation. Special effects apps are a great way to modify photos so they can be used efficiently in other projects.
Water my photo (free)
This app is a fun way to make any photo more solemn or special. You select a photograph from your Camera Roll or you take a photo and then you add a water reflection to it. It is a one-trick app so the uses are limited but because it is free it could be interesting to add to your "Photography" folder.
There are annoying ads on the bottom like in many free apps but once you've taught your students about media awareness, it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Color Effects HD (free)
ColorStrokes (1.99$)
These two apps take any photo from your Camera Roll, converts them into black and white and then lets you recolour them how you want. Color Effects HD is free and works fine. There is a learning curve here since you are using the fat fingertip to do quite delicate work, but once you have done a few it is very straightforward. You can adjust the colours, the translucency of the colour and the size of the brush.
The ColorStrokes app is 1.99$. The price you pay is simply for even more brush options as well as for the added option of painting in layers over the photo. As before, the free version works perfectly well for a classroom setting.

YouDoodle (free)
YouDoodle Pro (2.99$)
This app can be used to colour and draw over a photo. There are dozens of options to choose from to add all kinds of lines and designs to your photos. What I loved about this app is that it is extremely easy to share to a variety of Social Media apps such as GoogleDrive, Dropbox and Twitter without having to first save the photo in your Camera Roll.
The Pro version removes the ads and all the in-app purchases are unlocked. These are however not needed. The options available in the free version are plenty. The ads in between uploads are annoying but a small price to pay when the app itself is free.

Texts on Pictures (free)
The name of this app says it all. It allows you to quickly and easily add text over a photo. It is very basic and limited but again this is a good way to modify a photo before using it somewhere else. There are ads once again and they are sometimes in the way of the tools so younger students may inadvertently click on them by mistake.
This app can be used to add quotes to a photo, to practice writing descriptive sentences or even write simple photo-stories.

Slideshows
PicFlow (free)
This app lets you take your photos from your Camera Roll and set them up as a slideshow and then add music from your device to the slideshow. It is EXTREMELY simple to use, it is a two button process. One button to add photos and another to add music.
Unfortunately, the slideshows can only be seen in-app right now which makes sharing the slideshow impossible (for now). The reason the app publishers
